Ethical risks with AI solutions, such as discrimination and privacy violations, need to be detected, governed and mitigated in order for companies and authorities to be able to embrace AI and its enormous values. The AI Act, EU’s proposed regulation for AI, will require new governance models.
–“Responsible AI is not only valuable in order to avoid costly risks, it also gives companies a strong competitive position”, says Josefin Rosén, Ph.D, Nordic Leader AI & Analytics, SAS Institute.
– “An ethical filter on AI solutions is a prerequisite for innovation and commercialization of AI. Together with SAS Institute, we help companies and authorities accelerate AI innovations that people can trust”, says Anna Felländer, founder of anch.AI.
The AI Act that is expected to become effective in 2024 may come as a shock to companies – similar to when GDPR was introduced but with higher penalties. The risks of an unregulated development of AI are imminent. Within the EU, there is a consensus that a regulation is needed. It should also be supplemented with an EU directive that makes it easier for individuals to direct claims against those responsible for AI systems from which they suffer damage. The EU directive will require cross-functional governance in organizations between IT, legal and business operations. The companies and authorities that allow this regulation to become a competitive advantage instead of an administrative burden win the trust of customers and citizens.
The value of SAS Institute and anch.AI joint offering is the opportunity and ability for organizations and authorities to embrace AI with the speed that is required, while ensuring legal and trustworthy outcomes to all stakeholders.
